Dr Anisa Mburu is a Kenyan gynecologic oncologist at Aga Khan Hospital, Mombasa, with expertise in cancer surgery, cervical cancer prevention, palliative care and health-system strengthening in resource-limited settings. She is the CEO and Founder of the SheFights Cancer Foundation, which expands access to cancer screening, treatment, surgical care and professional training in underserved communities. Dr Mburu serves as the African representative on the Lancet Ovarian Cancer Commission and currently serves as the cervical cancer lead for the WHO - Aga Khan University Center of Excellence Collaborative Initiative. She co-chairs the International Gynecologic Cancer Society Palliative Care Workgroup and has contributed to international resource-stratified cervical cancer treatment guidelines as well as the cervical cancer screening guidelines for Kenya. Her research focuses on equitable access to gynecologic cancer care, surgical capacity-building and innovative approaches to women’s cancer diagnosis and staging. She is committed to developing sustainable global partnerships that improve outcomes for women with gynecologic cancers.
