Adelaide was surveyed in 1837 by Colonel William Light as a flat grid of wide streets around five public squares, ringed entirely in parkland. It is the only Australian capital enclosed by its own Park Lands — and you can walk across it in twenty minutes.
Victoria Square — the exact centre of Light’s grid, and where delegates will be based. Free tram at the door.
North Terrace — art gallery, museum, state library, two universities and SAHMRI along 1.5 km of one boulevard.
The Central Market — trading since 1869, 70-plus stallholders, one block west of the venue.
Wine country — the Adelaide Hills start twenty minutes out; the Barossa, McLaren Vale and Clare Valley follow.
The coast — the tram from the venue runs straight to a west-facing beach at Glenelg.

The Kaurna people are the Traditional Owners of the Adelaide Plains, with a connection to this Country running back tens of thousands of years. Evidence of occupation at nearby Hallett Cove dates to around 40,000 years.

Adelaide Airport is one of the easiest capital-city airports in Australia to use: a single integrated terminal for domestic and international flights, six kilometres from the venue, with no transfer between buildings.
From the airport — taxi or rideshare in about 15 minutes, or the JetBus J1/J2 in 25–30. There is no airport rail line.
Domestic — roughly hourly services through the day from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Canberra.
International — direct services from several Asian, Middle Eastern and New Zealand ports, plus connections through the east-coast capitals.
By rail — The Ghan and the Indian Pacific use Adelaide Parklands Terminal at Keswick, three kilometres away.

The ASM lands in mid-autumn, which is arguably the best time of year to be here: the heat has gone, the vintage is in, and the city is between festival seasons.
During the meeting — average 21°C by day and 14°C overnight, about eight hours of sun. Pack layers and a light jacket.
Vintage — harvest runs from February into April, so cellar doors are at their busiest and most interesting just before you arrive.
High season — “Mad March”, when the Adelaide Festival, the Fringe, WOMADelaide and a street race all overlap. Book early if you are extending backwards.
